Beautiful Nude Women from the Orient: A Journey through colonial Northern Africa
Beautiful Nude Women from the Orient: A Journey through colonial Northern Africa
ISBN: 9781523453894In the years before the 1st world war, a big part of northern Africa was at that time a colony of France. Among these countries were Marocco, Tunesia, Algeria and also Syria. The pictures from this picturebook were made by photographers, who were travelling in this part of the world. They date back to the years 1870 – 1914. These photographs of nude arabic women are made with girls from the low part of society. There may even be many slave girls among them, because slavery was still common in this part of the world at that time. The other pictures are from servants, dancers, prostitutes and the like. An open word to the quality of the pictures. Most of the pictures are more than 100 years old. Therefore the quality cannot be compared with modern pictures. Some of the images have their origin in old postcards. So here and there, there will be writings and stamps on the images.
