I offer this book as a intellectual memoir of a dream betrayed. I believe that what had become known as the American Dream was a cumulative result of numerous decisions, policies, personalities and actions that captured the spirit of freedom, economic liberalism, social progress, diversity, equity, and humanity.
Any idea that was meant to challenge those ideas was a contribution to disorder, chaos, and anti-human attitudes. It is my intention to critique the social and moral involution that has become endemic during the Trump decade in American politics. The critique reveals the immensity of the contradictions unleashed by Trump’s agenda to downsize the American dream or obliterate it outright. A government that cannot explain its vision for expanding democracy and human rights is a government that has failed its people.
