A Majozo Reader: Volume I brings together five major works by Estella Conwill Majozo-Musa and the Slave-Ship Angel, Freedom Clothes: The Amazing Tale of Thornton and Lucie Blackburn, Artifacts, Truth in the Territory, and This Is What I Know About Courage. These living texts are built for voice, performance, image, witness, and public encounter. Through drama, historical fiction, visual art, poetry, and testimony, they chart the African American journey from the Middle Passage to the struggle for voting rights while breaking through conventional boundaries of genre and form. The works move audiences beyond the study of history and into direct engagement with suffering, spiritual endurance, creative power, and the resistance that drove a people toward freedom.

Majozo stands within the great Black expressive tradition, where song, story, image, prayer, movement, and performance carry ancestral knowledge across generations. She writes with moral clarity, lyrical force, and spiritual authority. She restores silenced witnesses, honors ancestral courage, and presents survival as both creative achievement and spiritual victory. These works do not soften the past. They bring it forward, make it present, and demand an answer.
