The Rhind Mathematical Papyrus was at some time broken in two sections and some fragments lost. Most of the manuscript today is kept at the British Museum in London.

The Rhind Mathematical Papyrus is an ancient Egyptian manuscript discovered in 1858. It is a textbook explaining such mathematical concepts as arithmetic, algebra, and geometry through the inclusion of 84 appropriate word problems. Its significance lies in its being one of the most important sources available for deciphering how Egyptians understood mathematics and used it in their daily lives.

The Rhind Papyrus was written down by an Egyptian scribe named Ahmes. He does not claim to be its author, however; he says that he is simply copying an older document dating from around 2000 BCE.
